Frequently Asked Questions
Considering the move to a retirement community comes with a lot of questions, here are answers to help you in your journey.
General
Are your retirement communities accredited?
Yes. In fact in 2004, Senior Resource Group was the first retirement community owner-operator to earn accreditations at all its eligible Assisted Living communities by the Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF).
What are the benefits of a continuum of care community?
Senior Resource Group’s continuum of care communities, featuring a choice of residential lifestyles ranging from Independent Living to Assisted Living to Memory Care, offer residents access to the residential living environment most appropriate to their needs now and in the future.
What is Independent Living?
Independent Living is for seniors who wish to live independently while benefiting from the advantages of an enhanced social, cultural and recreational lifestyle. With services like 12-hour restaurant dining, weekly housekeeping, flat linen laundry service, and scheduled transportation, Independent Living residents are free from the burden of home-maintenance concerns and have more time to enjoy the things they love. In addition, Independent Living residents do not require routine personal assistance and care services.
What is Assisted Living?
Assisted Living is for seniors who need help with the activities of daily life, yet wish to remain as independent as possible. Assisted Living residents enjoy the same features and amenities as Independent Living residents, but with the added assistance of personal care, weekly personal laundry and three meals daily, including snacks. SRG communities’ personal assistance and care services include assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, medication assistance, etc. Services can be increased or decreased over time, as needed.
What is Memory Care?
Memory Care offers specialized support for those with Alzheimer’s or related conditions. Senior Resource Group’s proprietary Dementia care program assures the finest in assistance and sustaining care. Each member of Senior Resource Group’s professional staff understands the importance of personal respect and dignity, and works with loved ones and healthcare specialists to ensure the comfort, care and well-being of each and every resident. Memory Care offers supportive health and personal care services 24-hours a day within a specially designed, therapeutic residential setting.

Why rental/lease options?

(Services listed above apply to IL congregate living residences. Additional services may be added/reduced depending on residence type/level of care selected.)
What is the one-time Service Initiation Fee or Community Service Fee?

Lifestyle
What types of senior living residences are available?
Senior Resource Group communities offer such a wide range of floor plan options, there are too many to list. While residence floor plans and sizes vary by community, in general, you’ll find a number of spacious studio, one and two-bedroom floor plan styles to choose from.
Will I be able to customize my home?
Yes. You may make non-structural changes to your residence such as painting, wall paper, and window coverings. Cost and coordination of such additions are the responsibility of the resident. There is a fee to return the residence to its original condition should you elect to change residences or leave the community.
Is additional storage space available?
Because each senior community is different, we recommend that you ask a Representative at the community about storage/availability.
Is parking available?
Yes. Typically, off-street parking is provided at each community. Please contact the community for specific information.
Are transportation services available on the property?
Yes, scheduled transportation is available at all of our senior communities.
Are we allowed to have pets?
Yes. Generally, small pets are welcome at SRG retirement communities. Please contact the community for specific information and questions.
Does your senior community offer guest rooms for out-of-town guests?
No, however, guests are welcome to stay with you in your residence. Also, your senior community’s Genuine Hospitality® director or Front Desk personnel can suggest a number of nearby hotels and inns for your guests.
Is any portion of the monthly fee tax-deductible?
Yes. For residents of licensed assisted living and memory care communities, a portion of the monthly fee may be deemed tax-deductible based on qualifying criteria. It is recommended that assisted living residents speak with their own income tax advisors for clarification about their personal situation.
Health & Wellness
What will happen when my health care needs change?
Senior Resource Group communities offer a continuum of care to address health and lifestyle changes as they occur. In several of our communities, Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care (where available) are offered as separate residential lifestyles within the same campus. In other retirement communities, services are blended — meaning that even if your needs change, your home doesn’t have to. Our Assisted Living program can provide personal care services within the comfort and privacy of your own residence.
Do I need long-term care insurance?
It is not required, but may be utilized should you require licensed Assisted Living care services. Insurance coverage and terms vary. We recommend discussing specifics with your insurance provider.
Who decides when a resident must transfer to Assisted Living or Memory Care?
Your comfort and care is always our first priority. Our senior community’s care providers and management team will work together with you and your family to determine if and when a move may be necessary.
